There is a garden phrase
that guides my gardening days
when February turns to May
and memories are a soupy soufflé.
That when sprouts haphazardly appear
and their heritage is unclear
they dare my reputation smeared
because I’ve destroyed a treasure dear.
Yes, I have gone out half-wit
ripped those suckers with fierce grit
only then I’ll scream, Oh sh*t!
That plant was truly legit.
So this gardening advice I submit –
no matter that seedling may seem unfit,
no matter this sucker ain’t worth a chit;
“If you don’t know it, don’t pull it!”

Happy 4th of July!
